Meteoric Ablation Simulator (MASI)

Status: Not defined
Publication State:

Abstract

The Meteoric Ablation Simulator (MASI) is a chamber with a resistively heated tungsten filament. A pyrometer monitors the temperature of the filament between temperatures of 1273 – 2873 K. Particles are placed on the filament then flash heated. The temperature of the filament is controlled by PID feedback on a millisecond timescale, allowing realistic atmospheric temperature profiles to be simulated.
