Raw Data from Digital Ionosondes for COST-271 Action Effects of the Upper Atmosphere on Terrestrial and Earth-Space Communications
Abstract
This service gives access to a collection of raw data files and processed data gathered from digital ionosondes, mostly in Europe, from 1995 to the present day, as part of the UK contribution to the COST-271 action Effects of the Upper Atmosphere on Terrestrial and Earth-Space Communications.
This Prompt Ionospheric Database Service gives access to a collection of raw data files gathered from ionosondes, mostly in Europe, and has been developed as part of the UK contribution to the COST-271 action Effects of the Upper Atmosphere on Terrestrial and Earth-Space Communications. If you are new to ionospheric sounding, basic introductions to ionosonde theory and ionogram interpretation are available from the UK Ionospheric Monitoring Group web site.
The observatories are located in Athens, Greece; Chilton, UK; Dources, Belgium; El Arenosillo, Spain; Juliursruh, Germany; Lerwick, UK; Lycksele, Sweden; Pruhonice, Czech Republic; Rome, Italy; Tortosa, Spain; Tromso, Norway; Warsaw, Poland.
The data can be queried and displayed in several ways, so that you can:
Get details about the stations and who operates them.
View data availability
Display a table of auto-scaled parameters
Plot selected auto-scaled parameters
Carry out a true-height analysis (using POLAN with certain default options)
Produce an SEC-style output file of parameters
Download raw data files for use with SAO-Explorer.
Retrieve manually scaled parameters in the same format as the auto-scaled parameters
It is also possible to set up a 'schedule' of data retrievals to be carried out repeatedly and automatically, with the data products either e-mailed or made available on the UK Solar System Data Centre (UKSSDC) anonymous FTP site.
