Met Office Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) System
Status: ongoing
Publication State: published
Abstract
All forecasts, of whatever type, are ultimately based on the predictions from the Met Office suite of sophisticated atmospheric and oceanic models, run on their powerful supercomputer. This form of forecasting is known as numerical weather prediction (NWP). Numerical weather prediction (NWP) is the process of obtaining an objective forecast of the future state of the atmosphere by running a computer model. The Met Office Unified Model is run operationally, in a number of configurations, for weather forecasting at the Met Office.
