Abstract

Global 3-D simulations of tropospheric ozone, using the TOMCAT chemical transport model, were undertaken as part of the NERC - National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) long-term science activities. The work investigated long-term trends in air pollutants and fire emissions observed/derived from space over the North-eastern Amazon region and used the TOMCAT CTM to interpret the impact on surface-level ozone concentrations, given the limited observational Spatio-temporal coverage. The model setup is based on that of Monks et al., (2017), but uses annually varying emissions as discussed in Pope et al., (2019).. The ozone data is provided as 6-hourly 3-D fields on the (approximately) 2.8 degree horizontal model grid. Atmospheric pressure is also included to provide vertical information on the ozone distribution up to 10 hPa. The high temporal output of the model is to allow for the accurate comparison of model simulations with satellite observations of atmospheric composition. While the runs by Pope et al., (2019) cover 2005 to 2016, only 2010 has been uploaded so far. The ozone data has units of volume mixing ratio (dimensionless), pressure data is in Pa. Lon, lat, time and vertical information is also included.
