Status: Not defined
Publication State: published

Abstract

The Universities' Facility for Atmospheric Measurement (UFAM) intercomparison field campaign took place in September 2002 at the Met Office Meteorological Research Unit (MRU), Cardington. The dataset contains measurements of wind speed and direction and turbulence parameters made with several of the UFAM instruments and the Met Office in-situ balloon borne tethersondes. These data are publicly available.

Introduction

The UFAM intercomparison field campaign took place in September 2002 at the Met Office Meteorological Research Unit (MRU), Cardington. The aim of the campaign was to inter-compare measurements of wind speed and direction and turbulence parameters made with several of the UFAM instruments and the Met Office in-situ balloon borne tethersondes. The MRU staff operating the tethered balloon facility.

The following UFAM instruments participated in this campaign

Access Restrictions

The Intercomparison study data are public. However,

  • Users are strongly advised to contact the relevant data provider before making use of any particular data set. As Salford data are currently the only data in the archive, the contact is Dr. Fay Davies.
  • Users commit themselves to use the data for scientific purposes exclusively. In particular, they will not use them for any commercial or commercially related purpose.
  • When using data to support your study, you are kindly asked to acknowledge their provider(s) in any subsequent publication.

Data availability and file format

The data are located in the UFAM archive.

All files in the UFAM Intercomparison study archive are written using the NetCDF data format.

Other projects and campaigns that have made use of UFAM instruments are:

Please see the UFAM web site at NERC and the UFAM main page at the BADC for more information.

Who to contact

  • Regarding the Salford instrumental data contact Dr. Fay Davies.
