Hirst-type 7-day recording volumetric spore trap (Burkard spore trap), with a 14 × 2 mm orifice through which air is drawn into a chamber at a rate of 10 L/min. Particles impact upon glycerine jelly-coated tape wound around a clockwork drum (circumference: 345 mm) which rotates at 2 mm/hr allowing continuous volumetric sampling for 7 days. Airflow is created by a solar powered pump with a 12 v battery. A wind vane allows the upper section to rotate so the sampling orifice faces into the wind.
