The Cloud Image Probe (CIP-15) is fabricated by Droplet Measurement Technologies (DMT). The CIP-15 is an optical shadow array imaging probe that images cloud particles at 15 micron resolution in 62 size bins by measuring the light attenuation as a particle passes through a laser beam. Images are produced in 3 level grey-scale. Particles pass through an open path sample volume in the air stream 40mm wide. The probe is fitted with anti-shatter tips. This instrument is routinely located on the FAAM BAe-146.
