Abstract

The Met Office European synoptic stations reported hourly surface data from 141 European stations for the period 1990-1996. The dataset includes parameters such as temperature, wind, rainfall, cloud cover, past and present weather, and visibility. Note - this has been superseded by the MIDAS Land Surface Station Dataset.

Data lineage:

Data collated by the Met Office from messages transmitted by collecting stations for the period 1990-1996, and then delivered to the BADC for archiving.

Data Quality:
Data are from operational network of meteorological stations around Europe conforming to WMO standards. However, data have not been further quality checked.
File Format:
The data held at the BADC, are stored in a simple ASCII format (plain text and "human" readable). See linked documentation for information on the the European data file format.
