Abstract

The MODIS Surface Reflectance Product from the Terra satellite is a level 2 data product derived from 7 spectrum bands (bands 1-7 each centred at 648 nm, 858 nm, 470 nm, 555 nm, 1240 nm, 1640 nm, and 2130 nm, respectively) from the Level 1B product. The product estimates the surface spectral reflectance as it would have been measured at ground level in the absence of atmospheric scattering or absorption. Corrections to account the effect of atmospheric gases, aerosols and thin cirrus clouds are made by using level 1B, other level 2 and level 3 products, and if necessary also climatology. Both the MOD09 dataset from the Terra satellite and the MYD09 dataset from the Aqua satellite are produced using the same processing system.

Title Deployed on Terra Satellite, part of the Earth Observation System Morning Constellation (EOS-AM)
Abstract Deployed on Terra Satellite, part of the Earth Observation System Morning Constellation (EOS-AM). Terra, launched on 18th December 1999, is a polar-orbiting satellite within the Morning Constellation that have equator crossings around 10:30 and 22:30 under NASA's Earth Obseration System (EOS). The satellite carries the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), the Clouds and Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES), the Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT), the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and the Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer (MISR), and these collect data on the Earth's atmosphere, ocean, land, snow and ice, and energy budget. Terra is the only satellite in the Terra mission, and it is a part of the Morning Constellation, which is a group of polar-orbiting satellites sharing the same orbit that all have equator crossings around 10:30 and 22:30. The Satellite was launched on 18th December 1999. Terra carries five instruments: The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER)
The Clouds and Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES)
The Measurements of Pollution in the Troposphere (MOPITT)
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)
The Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer (MISR)
These instruments collects data on atmosphere, ocean, land, snow and ice, and energy budget.
