Met Office Aberporth High Resolution Radiosonde Data
Abstract
Met Office high resolution (2 second) radiosonde data from the Aberporth airfield, Mid Wales from 1990 to present. The data consist of vertical profiles of pressure, temperature, relative humidity, humidity mixing ratio, sonde position, wind speed and wind direction. Measurements are taken at 2 second intervals and the ascents extend to heights of approximately 20-30 km. An ASCII formatted set of files are also available from 1990 to 2000 within this dataset.

Access rules: |
These data have multiple licences for different applications. Always make sure to read the appropriate licence for full data usage limitations details. Other usage may not be permitted.
Restricted data: please submit an application using the REQUEST ACCESS link for access. Use of these data is covered by the following licence(s): https://artefacts.ceda.ac.uk/licences/specific_licences/ukmo_agreement.pdf https://artefacts.ceda.ac.uk/licences/specific_licences/ukmo_agreement_gov.pdf When using these data you must cite them correctly using the citation given on the CEDA Data Catalogue record. |
Data lineage: |
Data are collected by the stations carrying out the radiosonde ascents and then transmitted back to the Met Office headquarters in Exeter. The ascent files are then delivered to CEDA for ingesting into the archive approximately 1 month in arrears. The ASCII version of the data were provided in support of operations of the MST radar facility near Aberystwyth and are included in this dataset as provided at that time. |
Data Quality: |
Data are from operational radiosondes stations, but are not quality checked. Therefore care should be taken to ensure that ascents are not affected by icing etc.
|
File Format: |
Data are Vaisala PC-CORA binary formatted. Refer to linked software to read these data. Additional in an ASCII format are also available for the period 1990 to 2000.
